In commemoration of the RAF's 100th year anniversary, Avi-8 is proud to announce the 1960's and 1980s edition of the Centenary Flyboy.

Following in the success of the 1920's and 1940s issues, which have since sold out, the newest releases in this once only drop of Avi-8 timepieces look to be similarly well received. Utilising the same chassis, and movement each collection nonetheless hints at each decade of aviation achievement.

The 1980s represented perhaps the arrival of an increasing level of computerization in the cockpit. Technology and an ever-increasing array of diagnostics meant more digitization and electronics married to the skill of the pilot of that era. New materials and new engineering concepts found their way into aircraft design.

The 1980s Centenary edition flyboy is constructed out of marine grade 316 L Stainless steel. With a 43 diameter and 18mm thickness the case is perfectly balanced and proportioned as a field watch with an unfussy form. Carefully finished execution of radial and vertical brush finish with slight polish chamfering on the lugs add to the subtle but deliberate detailing on the watch.A scratch-resistant sapphire lens domes gently over the bezel adding a subtle magnification to the dial for greater clarity and depth. The sword-shaped hour and minute hands feature Swiss Super LumiNova for greater low light visibility and legibility and roll over the semi-translucent dial with precisely finished faceted baton indexes on the hour and a zero-hour index at the 12 o'clock position and date window aperture at the 3'o'clck position.

Through skillful engineering and design, the seconds subdial at the 4 o'clock position has been re-worked to show off the seconds display in a gauge like instrumentation readout. This detail alone adds an entirely new dimension to the watch and re-interprets the movement in a new manner adding complexity and interest to each view. In choosing a material or attachment to hold the watch to the wrist of the wearer, CORDURA was selected reflecting both the era in which this high grade, military specification material came into a wider application. The robust cut edged construction allows the wearer a snug fit while being hardy enough to withstand most elements.
