LIMITED EDITION OF ONLY 63 PIECES. MADE IN THE USA
For the watch enthusiast with a passion for innovation and ingenuity, the new must-have timepiece is the Tread 1. This engineering masterpiece is the debut timepiece from DEVON, a design lab headquartered in Los Angeles, California that has dedicated itself to creating innovative luxury products that exemplify the American spirit. With Tread 1, DEVON immediately establishes a leading-edge vision and an exquisite command of the artistry of watch design. Devon's vision of the Tread 1 went so far beyond the limits of conventional watchmaking techniques that DEVON sought the help of another industry experienced in pushing the limits of engineering, physics and even gravity. DEVON enlisted California aerospace engineering companies to help develop the intricate technology required to make the Tread 1 possible. As founder Scott Devon says, "In the aerospace industry people go to work every day to make the impossible happen and working with California-based talent means our timepieces are wholly developed and manufactured in the U.S. thereby capturing the unique character of American dreams." The ultimate validation of this innovative spirit came in 2010 when the Tread 1 was nominated for the esteemed Gran Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve in the category of Design and Concept Watch - the first American watch brand ever to receive this laudable recognition. The Tread 1 's unique functionality reinvents the watch, extending far beyond the boundaries of traditional watchmaking. The movement of the Tread 1 is a mesmerizing display of DEVON's own patented system of interwoven Time Belts that displays hours, minutes and seconds in a way that's never been seen before. Four extremely compact microstep motors drive the movement of the four belts with efficiency, exacting power and steadfast accuí«_racy. The belt assemblies mounted gn a central chassis, which allows for the perfect clearance of the moving parts and also creates the illusion that the parts are floating within the case. Fiberglass-reinforced nylon allows for belts that are only 2/1000, of an inch thick, While being, strong and stable enough to ensure continuous accuracy. This technology is adapted directly out of the cockpits of modern airliners like the Boeing 747 where these same belts were used in avionics packages to indicate vital meí«_asurements such airspeed and fluid levels.
At the heart of the Tread 1 is an onboard microprocessor, essentially a tiny smart computer that controls all of the watch's functions. It gathers data from a temperature-compensated crystal and a proprietary optical recognition system, which contií«_nuously monitors and verifies the position of the time belts thereby ensuring steadfast accuracy. in fact, the Tread 1 is accurate to within one half-second per day. Lubricant-free ruby bearings are used at the friction points of the movement, a thoughtful engineí«_ering detail which precludes the need for lubrication and significantly reduces required maintenance. Power for the Tread 1 is provided by a robust lithium-polymer rechargeable cell that runs for up to two weeks on a single charge. When recharging is required, it is accomplished inductively, without wires, via a custom designed charging tower in only a few hours. The window into this mechanical masterpiece is a crystal produced from scratchí«_-resistant polycarbonate with bulletproof durability.
The exterior case parts of the Group 63 are a mix of black coated frame and carbo-tech master links. To form the plates of the carbo-tech, thin sheets of carbon fibers are compressed under high pressure together with a high-end polymer, PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone), binding the composite material and making it even stronger and more durable. On the inside of the case, you find the most recognizable features of the red motor housings and hour/minute/second indicator plate. The red is continued into the numbers applied to the black time belts creating a sporty, racing appearance.
