Hours, minutes and seconds are deliberately deconstructed into three different cycles of time that elapse individually but tell time collaboratively. The regulator complication first appeared in the late 18th century on clocks to improve legibility when checked by watchmakers as a reference time for the accuracy of their pocket watches. There is clarity and precision in separating each hand to demonstrate the purity of each cycle of time. The center hand reflects the minutes while the hand that is left of center indicates the hour of the day. The full 24 hours of the day are reflected giving the wearer a more complete sense of time. The seconds sub-dial hand moves six times a second reflecting the inevitable passing of time as a fluid concept.
What must be also viewed and understood is the care and detail taken in even the cleanest of lines and layouts on the Regulator. The dial curves at the very lip creating a domed, three-dimensional outlook. The minute hand matches the same curve thanks to its careful machining of the hand so that it fits precisely underneath the lens and flows with the lines of the dial surface. The case is beautifully streamlined with a curved hesalite lens on the top and see through mineral lens on the exhibition case-back that allows for a clear view of the customized self-winding movement assembled in harmony with the renowned discipline of German watchmaking.
