Onorio D'Epiro created this playful watch design for Mr. Jones: a vast, lumbering monster roams the city, eating anything he can find: people, cars even numbers! He plucks the hours from the sky, while in his stomach the minutes churn and mix with the debris of his rampage. Onorio explains the inspiration that led to the design, "My fascination with monsters and weird, wonderful creatures stems from my childish imagination and a love of simple, bold design. I'd previously worked on a collection that combined photographic imagery with my illustrations - I really like the contrast between the fine detail of the photography and the bold color of the drawing. With Number Cruncher I wanted to try and tell a story in miniature - the watch is a snapshot of a narrative and the viewer feels a range of emotions for the monster in his new surroundings. In addition to the static imagery the movement of the disc hands allows a humorous story of carnage and number-consumption to unfold. The x-ray cut out of the belly shows all of the numbers, as well as the odd unfortunate person and automobile, churning inside this cute but deadly monster. The fact that someone may be wearing this little rampaging creature stuck inside a city in a watch is very amusing to me.” Number Cruncher was printed and assembled by Mr. Jones in their London studo/workshop. Each color on the components was printed in turn - the glasses alone have been through 12 separate printings.
